Youth blog

Lisa Gibbons

Hi all, Luca here. It’s my first time writing a blog post on the website! I’ll be posting weekly updates and things discussed from the steering group (more about that below).

First, let me introduce myself:

I’m 13 years old, the youngest person to engage with the charity openly, and I go to the weekly session at the youth group on Mondays. I get engaged with the youth and adult community alike, participating in things like the blog, and chairing the meetings along with Lisa, the project manager for Youth Voice Swindon. The Youth Voice group helped me a lot at improving my social skills and forging lasting connections with the community. You can tell from my goofy face that I am a computer person.

Now, let’s talk about what exciting projects Youth Voice is planning right now.

1. We’re going to be hosting a programme on Swindon 105.5 radio! I know! We’re going to be famous! Don’t worry, it’s not that big. Lisa and 105.5 will be talking more about the plan for the programme on the 6th of January, on Monday, where (hopefully) I’ll have enough information to post a blog about it.

2. We’re currently deciding what to do with the £500 raised by Agon Rai at the Windsor half-marathon, and all ideas will be considered.

3. We have a small square of land outside the Swindon Heritage Preservation where we’re planning to do all sorts of stuff like adding messages for passers-by to read, or even decorating it with anything your creative minds could think of. We’re trying to get funding from gardening centres to get gardening equipment and seeds for plants as well.

That’s a quick summary of all the projects we’ve been doing or working towards. I’ll also be doing a blog (an article, dare I say) about what the leaders and children have been saying in the steering group and controversial matters that have been discussed at the group. Keep your eye out for that soon!

If you don’t know what a steering group is, (more formally known as a steering committee) it’s a group of people who decides on the priorities or order of an organisation – in this case, Youth Voice Swindon.

I’ll be doing an article on the committee which happens every two months.

I’ll take a break on doing updates next week on the second article, because there won’t be a Youth session next week, it’ll begin again on the 6th of January.

Thanks for reading, and from behalf of all the people here working on the Youth Voice Project, have the happiest break and the merriest New Year!
